Dr. Johanna Wildemann
Project Manager
Dr. Johanna Wildemann pursued her doctoral degree (Dr.) at the Paul Ehrlich Institute, the German Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines with a focus on virus-host-interactions. Before her doctoral thesis, she studied Biology (BSc) in Cologne, Germany and Lund, Sweden and afterwards Infection and Immunity (MSc) in Utrecht, the Netherlands and San Francisco, USA.
Work Experience
Project Manager
Institute of Virology – Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Key responsibilities include:
- Administrative coordination of international research projects in virology and global health.
- Supporting large German–African research collaborations on vaccine development and infectious disease preparedness.
- Managing project logistics, communication, and reporting between research partners, funders, and institutions.
- Supporting research teams led by scientists such as Prof. Christian Drosten and other virology experts.
She also participates in international meetings and coordination activities, including project kickoff meetings with research institutions, governments, and health agencies.
Research and Project Interests
Although her role is largely project and research coordination, the initiatives she supports focus on several major research areas:
- Global health and pandemic preparedness
- Vaccine research and development
- Capacity building for biomedical research in Africa
- International infectious disease collaborations
- Public health and health system strengthening
These projects aim to improve vaccine production capacity, disease surveillance, and scientific training in low- and middle-income countries.
